We created this new store in Covent Garden for the UK distributors of  Birkenstock, from the bespoke design of white oak shelving to the architectural treatment of the interior space and exterior façade.

Famous for handmade sandals with moulded cork soles, Birkenstock have remained notoriously anti-fashion even during its fashion reprisals, and have become a very cool statement about individuality and personal style.

The new location offered an opportunity for the client to present a fresh and more prominent focus for a brand that they had successfully introduced to the UK over 30 years before.  Our role was to help deliver an informed buying process   that was simple and fast.

With a small sales area and a very broad product range, the store plan works hard to get best use of every cubic inch. The interior design focuses on presenting a clean, uncluttered space, with a discipline of recessed, numbered shelving bays to bring order to product displays and overstock boxes alike, whilst the use of real oak display furniture brings a human touch that reflects the hand crafting skill of the shoemaker.
