Head Office

Waterstones asked us to help them relocate their head office from Brentford to the upper floors of their Flagship store on Piccadilly. The objective was to bring head office operations to the heart of their retail business, which involved a strategic overview of  their working practices, space requirements and departmental adjacencies, as well the design of furniture systems that encouraged a more dynamic environment for collaborative working.

Our work included the architectural treatment of the office areas to compliment the modernist aesthetic of this 1930’s Grade I listed building. We created a stripped-back, artisan ‘look and feel’ to offices on the fifth, sixth and eighth floors, which provided a simple utility, in contrast to stunning views over the West End; whilst clever lighting design helped us simulate natural daylight for meeting areas and reception spaces on the lower ground floor.

We worked with Flexiform to develop a benching system that reflected the retailer’s brand values, and with Boss Design on meeting tables and a suite of furniture for collaborative working. Our bespoke reception desk in the lower ground Events Lounge was inspired by Library Fujimoto, in Japan, to reflect Waterstones love of books.
