Waterstones asked us to create a private office space for its owner, Alexander Mamut, on the eighth floor roof-scape of the Piccadilly Flagship store.

The office space was created within an architecturally listed, prefabricated structure which had been added to the roof of the store in the 1950’s, and provides an exclusive private setting with stunning views across London’s West End.

Our design echoes the mid-century context of the structure, with bespoke oak paneling and inset bookshelves, bordered in aluminium beading with mitered junctions. The technical challenge was to design a 4ft wide, oak-framed, glazed door with a 54Db acoustic rating, within a partition with a glazed fanlight across the entire width of the structure, in order to bring extra daylight to the adjacent office space.
